Spanish Third Division club AD Ceuta have sanctioned the transfer of exciting young midfielder Christantus Ugonna Uche to La Liga club Getafe, Soccernet.ng reports.
It is a meteoric rise to the pinnacle of Spanish football for Uche, who was still kicking a football around with friends and neighbours in Owerri, Imo State of Nigeria, only 14 months ago.
Uche arrived in Spain in July 2022 to join Moralo CP in the Tercera División Rfef – the country’s third division.
The youngster needed little time to settle and impressed straightaway, going on to feature in 17 league games for the Extremadura team.
Uche caught the attention of Ceuta with his brilliant performances, and the club secured his signing ahead of the 2023-2024 campaign.
The plan was to bring the young midfielder to the club and integrate him into the reserve team to see how he develops.
However, Uche was outstanding from the first day off, causing head coach José Juan Romero to incorporate him into the first team.
The Owerri-born lad did not disappoint, as he has racked up 22 appearances in the Primera División Rfef while contributing one assist.
And only seven months into his stay at Ceuta, Uche had drawn significant interest from La Liga clubs Getafe and Real Betis.
It is the former, however, who have won the race to his signature, sealing a two-year deal with the youngster for an undisclosed fee. In the contract, Ceuta are also reported to have inserted a financial clause that would earn the club 20 percent of Uche’s future transfers.
Uche, 20, will remain with Ceuta in the following weeks and will join Getafe’s first team permanently at the end of the season.
