Can Cameroon’s Lionesses beat Nigeria’s Super Falcons in Abuja? Coach Jean-Baptiste Bisseck gives his verdict

Can Cameroon’s Lionesses beat Nigeria’s Super Falcons in Abuja? Coach Jean-Baptiste Bisseck gives his verdict

The Super Falcons are Africa's most successful national team, but they have not qualified for the Olympic Games in more than a decade

The head coach of Cameroon’s women’s national team, Jean-Baptiste Bisseck, has vowed to lead the Indomitable Lionesses to victory over Nigeria when the two teams meet in Abuja on Monday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigeria and Cameroon played out a goalless draw when the two nations met in Douala on Friday in the first leg of their 2024 CAF Olympic Games qualifier.

The second leg is scheduled for the National Stadium in Abuja on Monday, February 26th, by 4 pm (Nigerian time).

Former African champions Nigeria had the upper hand in Douala, creating the better chances and having a goal incorrectly ruled out for offside.

The Super Falcons also hold the head-to-head advantage over the Cameroonians, winning nine of their last 12 meetings and losing just two. None of those two losses were on Nigerian soil, with the Super Falcons yet to ever lose a competitive home fixture.

Still, Cameroon coach Jean-Baptiste Bisseck believes the record WAFCON winners are beatable despite admitting that his charges are not yet at their optimum.

Bisseck is convinced he saw Nigeria's strengths and weaknesses in Douala, and the Indomitable Lionesses will capitalise on those to outsmart the Falcons in Abuja.

“The collective is not yet very well established on our side,” Bisseck said.

“We’re going to go there and fight for qualification.

“We already know them; we have seen the strong points and the weak points.

“We will play on the Abuja field as if we are playing at home. Cameroon will not entertain any fear. The Lionesses are prepared to win and make progress.”

The winner of the tie between Nigeria and Cameroon will face either African champions South Africa or Tanzania in the final round of the Olympic Games qualifiers.

South Africa have the edge in that faceoff, having defeated Tanzania 3-0 in the first leg.
