İlkay Gündoğan missed the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil due to a back injury as Germany emerged winners at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
Germany and Barcelona midfielder, İlkay Gündoğan, has drawn comparisons between Robert Lewandowski and Victor Osimhen after their midweek UEFA Champions League clash, Soccernet.ng reports.
Gündoğan, 33, won the treble with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City before moving to Barcelona to fulfil his childhood dream.
He has gone on to become a fan favourite in little to no time for the Blaugrana, having a hand in fifteen goals for Barcelona this season.
After their midweek UEFA Champions League round of sixteen against Victor Osimhen’s Napoli, the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder heaped praise on the CAF Player of the Year, likening him to Lewandowski.
Lewandowski and Osimhen scored one each for their respective sides on the night to keep the tie open ahead of a second lie in Spain, and Gündoğan praised both players.
“Both are great strikers, they know where the goal is and how to score, and they are good at finishing. I think Robert adapts well to our game, he knows how to control the ball in difficult conditions. Osimhen knows how to be aggressive when he has a player on him, but also if they have different qualities they are two world-class footballers,” the one-time Bundesliga winner said in quotes revealed by Tribal Football.
The second leg of their round of sixteen tie will be played at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Spain on the 12th of March.
