The youngster is a tough-tackling defensive midfielder, and he heads to Belgium to perfect his craft
Flying Eagles midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi has officially sealed his transfer to Belgian second-division club SV Zulte Waregem, as confirmed on Friday, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 20-year-old midfielder, who previously plied his trade with Botev Plovdiv in Bulgaria, joins SV Zulte Waregem on a 4.5-year deal.
Nnadi gained attention for his noteworthy performance during the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina, where the Nigerian team exited the tournament in the quarter-final stage after suffering defeat against South Korea.
Nnadi will wear the number 21 jersey at his new club.
Pleased with the club’s latest acquisition, Sporting Manager Tom Caluwé said,
“Nnadi has a unique profile that we can utilize within our current core. He is a strong and explosive midfielder, combining technique with a tremendous work ethic.
“At 20 years old, Nnadi is still very young, but we believe he can help build the future of Essevee.”
Expressing his delight at the move, Nnadi stated,
“I am so happy to be here. I was often in contact with Ablo, and I saw how he has blossomed in recent months at this fantastic club. It is the right time for me to make the move to Essevee.
“It will be an exciting few months ahead, but I look forward to building the future together with the team.”
Nnadi reunites with former Plovdiv teammate Abdoulaye Traoré.
The midfielder could make his debut for Zulte Waregem in the upcoming clash against Jong Genk this weekend in the Challenger Pro League.
As SV Zulte Waregem continue to make strides in the Belgian second-tier, currently securing the second spot behind Beerschot V.A. with 32 points from 17 games, the prospect of promotion to the First Division looms large if they maintain their impressive form.
