There have been talks that Chukwueze will leave AC Milan this January, but the Super Eagles star has put those talks to bed
Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze has iterated that he wants to remain at AC Milan and fight for a place at the club, Soccernet.ng reports.
Chukwueze left Laliga side Villarreal last season for AC Milan in a deal worth €20 million. The 24-year-old attacker had a decent end to his time in Spain, registering 13 goals and 11 assists in 52 appearances for the Yellow Submarine.
There were talks that Arsenal and other top clubs were interested in Chukwueze at the time, but he opted for a transfer to Serie A giants AC Milan.
Unfortunately, the Super Eagles star has not lived up to the expectations. With only two goals and one assist in 19 appearances across all competitions, Chukwueze has not won coach Stefano Pioli’s trust, as most of his appearances have been from the bench. Even some of his starts have been because of AC Milan’s struggle with injuries.
Due to his poor start, there have been talks that Chukwueze may leave Milan to go on loan at another club. However, the Nigeria international has rubbished those talks, insisting that he wants to stay and fight for a place.
“I’m not leaving because I need to prove myself. They signed me for quite a good money. Me leaving AC Milan means that I’m just shying away from my responsibilities,” Chukwueze told Soccernet.ng.
“So, I just have to focus and work hard. It’s a big club, so I have to show myself and show my potential. If I didn’t want to play, I wouldn’t have signed for the club.”
Chukwueze is currently with the Super Eagles in Ivory Coast for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
