Terem Moffi was called up as a replacement for Victor Boniface, but he will miss Nigeria’s opener against Equatorial Guinea
Nice striker Terem Moffi, who was called up as a replacement for the injured Victor Boniface, will resume camp on Sunday, January 14, the same day that Nigeria play Equatorial Guinea in their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations opener, Soccernet.ng reports.
Moffi made coach Jose Peseiro’s provisional 40-man list for the AFCON, but he was not included in the final 25-man list that was released. Instead, Peseiro preferred Real Sociedad star Sadid Umar and Bayer Leverkusen hitman Victor Boniface.
Unfortunately, Boniface sustained an injury in Nigeria’s train camp in Abu Dhabi that ruled him out of the Nations Cup.
Subsequently, Moffi got called up as Boniface’s replacement. However, the call-up came at short notice, giving Nice the power to decide when he would be able to leave the club for the AFCON.
According to reports by Sports, Moffi will only be able to resume camp after Nice’s Ligue 1 game against Rennes on Saturday. This was further corroborated by the media officer of the NFF, Babafemi Raji.
So, Moffi will link up with the team in Cote d’Ivoire, and he will not be listed for the game against Equatorial Guinea. But he should be available for the second game against Cote d’Ivoire on January 18.
The 24-year-old striker has registered six goals and two assists in 16 appearances for Nice this season.

Forget about this Afcon. The Eagles most likely will leave after the group stages given the level of their preparation. Then Let Nigerians face the real issues in the country, enough with using football to distract us when there are so many things wrong in the country.
