The Nigeria forward is having a great time in Saudi Arabia, but he could cut it short to make a quick return to Europe
Trabzonspor President Ertuğrul Doğan has revealed that efforts are in place to convince Anthony Nwakaeme to return to the club shortly, Soccernet.ng reports.
Nwakaeme, whose departure caused a significant rift between family members, left Trabzonspor in the summer of 2022, ending his four-year stay in Trabzon.
During his spell at the club, Nwakaeme helped Trabzonspor win the Turkish Cup, the Super Cup, and the Super Lig for the first time in almost 40 years.
However, the player and the club could not agree on a contract extension when his deal expired, allowing the one-cap Nigeria international to join Saudi’s Al Fayha on a free transfer in August 2022.
Still, Nwakaeme remains a popular figure in Trabzonspor, and the club’s top executive has confessed that they have contacted the 34-year-old forward about a return to Turkey.
Doğan reveals Nwakaeme is keen on a move back to Trabzonspor as early as January, but the club president confided that any deal would not involve a transfer fee.
However, with Nwakaeme’s contract with Al-Fayha expiring in June, Trabzonspor could get their man in the summer for free.
As per Fotomac, President Doğan said, “We had a meeting with Nwakaeme. He has a contract with Al-Fayha. We said that we cannot pay him a transfer fee. He also wants to come; we will see.”
Nwakaeme is a key figure for Al-Fayha, with the former Hapoel Beer Sheva contributing six goals (five goals and one assist) in 16 appearances across all competitions for the Asian side.
