Francis Uzoho committed blunders that led to goals during the two games the Super Eagles played during the last International Break.
Super Eagles coach, Jose Vitor Peseiro and stand-in captain, Kenneth Omeruo have showered Francis Uzoho with their support, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Omonia S.C. goalkeeper committed blunders that allowed the Super Eagles to concede goals during the October International break.
The 25-year-old then posted on his social media handle, defending his performances, before getting support from his teammates and coach.
Jose Peseiro, speaking ahead of Nigeria’s game against Lesotho, has reiterated his trust in Uzoho, stating the Omonia goalkeeper is his first choice.
“Uzoho is our goalkeeper. Okoye, Ojo, Amas and Adeleye are our goalkeepers. If I see a goalkeeper better than Uzoho, I will bring him and he will play, I am not stupid, I want to play the best players. Everyone knows he made a mistake against Saudi Arabia. He knows, I know, I spoke with him and he spoke with me.”
Kasimpasa centre back, Kenneth Omeruo, also sent his message of support to the goalkeeper, telling Nigerians to rally behind the goalkeeper.
“Plenty people can say he’s made mistakes but I feel he’s the best goalkeeper we have, and they shouldn’t also forget the games he’s bailed us out. To be a goalkeeper is not easy and they need the fans to be behind them and to show support. The coach is behind him, and I am too.”
With Uzoho primed to start against Lesotho, the Super Eagles want to win all their qualification games to make a statement of intent after missing the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Uzoho should not be used yet until he proves that he is back from his club performance. Agreed there had been time he performed very well, he was preferred against others but now he suppose to be sidelined and others given their chance.
Have they considered the psychological effect on other hardworking keepers everywhere?
