The Super Eagles had to settle for a draw in their first game, but Peseiro wants the players to put that behind them and beat Zimbabwe on Sunday
Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has advised his lads to prove their quality when they play Zimbabwe in their second game of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on Sunday, Soccernet reports.
Nigeria started their 2026 World Cup qualifiers campaign on a disappointing note after a 1-1 draw against Lesotho on Thursday. The three-time African champions were overwhelming favourites, but Lesotho put up a spirited performance to ensure that they shared the spoils.
Jose Peseiro’s lads have a shot at redemption on Sunday when they play Zimbabwe at the Stade Huey in their second game of the qualifiers. Unlike the first game, this tie promises to be even tougher because the Warriors have more quality players than Lesotho. Still, Peseiro is unfazed, as he is targeting a victory.
“To play for the Super Eagles, you must be prepared to receive pressure and play with pressure,” Peseiro said per Oganla media.
“Of course, no one is happy[with the draw against Lesotho]. We are very sad and disappointed about the result. But now, the players have to show their quality.
“Like when we lost to Guinea at home last time, we went to their home and beat them. Now, we need to beat Zimbabwe.”
If the Super Eagles fail to win and South Africa win their own game against Rwanda, they will be in a dangerous position going into the next set of games. They have to get a win to stamp their authority in Group C.
What style is Peseiro playing I don’t even understand. It is easy for any good coach to have a first eleven with these crop of players but this man keeps experimenting even in a match as important as today’s against Zimbabwe. Look at where Aribo is positioned. This man knows nothing about coaching. NFF must sack him now. But don’t replace him with Eguavon
