Emmanuel Dennis fell out of favour in Steve Cooper’s squad following his 2022 Summer transfer move which forced him out on loan to Istanbul Basaksehir
Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Dennis was among the Nigerian players actively changing clubs during the 2023 Summer transfer window, Soccernet.ng reports.
Dennis, who moved from Watford FC to Nottingham Forest in the 2022 summer window, failed to meet expectations, resulting in him falling out of favour in Steve Cooper’s squad.
Despite joining Istanbul Basaksehir on a season-long loan from England, Dennis was rumoured to be joining Trabzonspor, where he would have been playing alongside his compatriot, Paul Onuachu, also on loan from Southampton.
Turkish media reports indicated that the Black Sea Storm were eager to secure the Nigerian forward, and there was a verbal agreement between the club and the former Club Brugge player.
However, a potential return of 33-year-old Bosnian forward Edin Visca to Basaksehir, which would have freed up space for Trabzonspor to pursue Dennis, didn’t materialize due to a contract disagreement between Visca and the team. This stalled the move for Dennis to Trabzonspor on loan.
Simultaneously, Trabzonspor successfully secured Onuachu on a season-long loan, and he has been performing well in the Super Lig, unlike Dennis, who had a slow start in Istanbul.
