Lookman was on the scoresheet for Atalanta, but his effort was not enough to guarantee La Dea the maximum points
Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman scored for Atalanta, but compatriot Victor Osimhen got off the bench to supply the assist for Napoli’s second goal in their 2-1 win at the Gewiss Stadium, Soccernet.ng reports.
Osimhen has been out of action for Napoli since October, when he sustained a muscle injury while on international duty with Nigeria. Nonetheless, he returned to the bench for the Partenopeans when they travelled to Bergamo for their Serie A fixture against Atalanta.
It was Napoli’s first match since Walter Mazzarri took over as coach, as his effect on the team was quite evident, as they looked hungry for the win from the blast of the whistle.
Eventually, the Serie A kings got the lead in the 44th minute after a brilliant header from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia off a cross from Giovanni Di Lorenzo.
However, Lookman drew level eight minutes into the second half. He got on the end of a cross from Hans Hateboer and produced a beautiful header that beat Pierluigi Gollini in Napoli’s goal.
Osimhen was introduced into the game in the 64th minute for Giacomo Raspadori, and he made his impact felt. 15 minutes into his introduction, Osimhen assisted Napoli’s second goal.
He produced a pass which found Eljif Elmas in the box. The North Macedonian then struck a wicked shot into the bottom corner to make it 2-1. That effort was enough to seal the victory for the Partenopeans. Napoli now sit fourth in the Serie A with 24 points.
Osimhen would be looking to return to the starting eleven when they play Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in midweek.
