Akor Adams is proving his worth for Montpellier Hérault SC, scoring goals and helping the team up front after joining from Norwegian side, Lillestrøm.
Montpellier head coach, Michel Der Zakarian has heaped praise on Nigerian forward, Akor Adams after a bright start to his debut campaign in the French top-flight, Soccernet.ng reports.
Adams, 23, moved to Montpellier in the summer after spells with two Norwegian sides, Songdal Football and Sportsklubb Lillestrøm.
His seven goals in eleven games have placed him second place on the goal-scoring charts, only behind Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe and his hard work has received plaudits from his manager.
Speaking with French outlet, Allez Paillade, coach Der Zakarian admitted he’s surprised by the qualities Akor possesses.
“I’m surprised what he’s doing. In a championship, which is not easy, he quickly adapted. Scroring goals and creating chances as he does, is very good. He makes good sequences, decisions, technical gestures and he likes to work. I don’t know if it’s a crack but he scored 24 goals in 2023,” The Armenian manager said.
The 60-year-old added that Akor still has areas in which he can improve, but concluded he is pleased with his overall game and potential.
“He can still make much progress. With his size, he can do better in the air, both in timing and mobility. His hold-up play is impressive, and his consistency. He repeats high-intensity runs, It’s surprising,” The former Nantes manager added.
Akor will be hoping to continue his rich vein of form this weekend as his side takes on Brest who are currently three points above them.
