Osimhen is one of the best players in Europe currently, but Mikel sees him achieving way more in the Premier League
Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has advised compatriot Victor Osimhen to leave Napoli if he wants to reach the peak of his game, Soccernet reports.
Osimhen has been one of the hottest strikers in world football for the last two years. The 24-year-old goal poacher helped Napoli to the Scudetto last season, contributing 26 goals. His brilliance saw him smash longstanding goals records held by African greats Samuel Eto’o and George Weah.
Following his impressive campaign with the Partenopeans, the former Wolfsburg man was linked to a host of top European clubs. Manchester United, Chelsea, PSG, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid were in the conversation for his signature, but a transfer failed to materialise.
Meanwhile, Napoli are also trying to get him to sign a contract extension. But the deal has failed to materialise.
Amidst all the talks, retired Chelsea star Milel thinks a move to the Premier League will profit Osimhen the most.
“Osimhen is still young, he’s a prospect that’s coming up, lots of things to improve on,” Mikel said on his Obione podcast.
“Give him a few years, but he’s going to be at the top. But I think his future lies elsewhere. I think next season, maybe not January, but the summer.
“He has to move on if he wants to be at the top. He’s paid his dues at Napoli, and it’s time he needs to move on to achieve greater things. He will only do that if he goes to the Premier League.
Osimhen’s days at Napoli seem to be numbered, as he has refused to sign a contract extension. If he refuses to put pen to paper for a new deal, the club may be forced to sell him next summer.
