Nigeria should have scored eight goals against Mozambique- Jose Peseiro

The Super Eagles had a dominant performance, but they failed to convert it into goals

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has admitted that he was not satisfied with his team's 3-2 victory over Mozambique on Monday, as he feels they should have scored up to eight goals, Soccernet reports.

Three-time African champions Nigeria squared off against Mozambique in their second friendly game of the international break. The Super Eagles were favourites to win, but they went down early in the first half via a strike from Geny Catamo.

However, Peseiro's men bounced back with goals from Terem Moffi and Frank Onyeka before the half-hour mark.

Mozambique's woes were compounded in the 38th minute after Edmilson Dove got sent off for fouling Joe Aribo despite being the last man.

Then, eight minutes later, Moses Simon converted from the spot to make it 3-1 for the Super Eagles.

It looked like Nigeria would run over Mozambique, considering the intensity with which they ended the first half. However, the second half was watered down, as the Super Eagles failed to score. In fact, it was Mozambique, who were reduced to ten men, that managed to find the net.

The play in the final third was largely disjointed, and they failed to convert their chances.

Speaking after the game, Peseiro was evidently unhappy with how the game ended, as he wanted his lads to score more goals.

“My players were thinking it was going to be easy because Mozambique had a red card,” Peseiro said after the game.

“Last time, I told them that conceding two goals against any team is bad, but today, we did the same.

“We created many chances, almost 13 shots, one-on-one situations, but we didn't utilise them. We had many opportunities, and for that, I am not happy because we did not put as much concentration as we did against Saudi Arabia.

“Today, we should have scored up to eight goals. We couldn't cross well, we didn't capitalise on our corners. For this, I am sad.”

With just around three months until the 2023 AFCON, Peseiro has to find a way to make the Super Eagles perform at their best, or he could be on his way out of the national team.
