Akinkunmi Amoo had earlier faced allegations over sexual harassment in Denmark, but a move away from the country offers him a fresh start
Nigerian International, Akinkunmi Amoo, has finalized a transfer from F.C. Copenhagen to Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus, signing a three-year deal with his new club, Soccernet.ng reports.
Amoo, a rising star in Nigerian football, had faced allegations of sexual assault while in Denmark, but his move to Cyprus marks a fresh start in his career.
He joins Nicosia-based club, where he will be reunited with fellow countryman Francis Uzoho, the current Super Eagles number one goalkeeper.
Uzoho has been playing in Nicosia since 2020 after joining from APOEL and will now have Amoo as a teammate in Cyprus.
AC Omonia officially confirmed Amoo’s signing on their website, stating, “We have reached an agreement with FC Copenhagen to sign 21-year-old Nigerian winger, Akinkunmi Amoo. The cooperation contract is for three years. The footballer started his career at Hammarby IF and a year and a half later he transferred to FC Copenhagen. We welcome Akinkumni Amoo to the OMONIA family and wish him every success.”
It’s worth noting that Amoo had faced challenges during his time at Copenhagen, including allegations of rape and sexual assault.
Nevertheless, this transfer to Omonia Nicosia offers him a chance for a new beginning and a fresh chapter in his football journey.
Amoo’s career has shown promise since his early days as a member of the Golden Eaglets squad at the 2019 FIFA Under-17 World Cup, and many will be watching his progress with interest as he embarks on this new adventure with Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus.
