The Brazilian is the best winger at Manchester United, but he may have to wait a while before he plays for the club
English Premier League club Manchester United have given Brazilian winger Antony a leave of absence following the allegations of assault levelled against him, Soccernet reports.
Antony has been accused of assault by a woman. But he has denied all the allegations. However, Brazil and Manchester United have been handling the matter carefully.
The 23-year-old was omitted from Brazil’s squad for the international break. And ordinarily, he should have resumed training at the club on Monday. However, because of his issues outside the pitch, he would have to wait a while before he plays again.
This is as Manchester United have confirmed that they have handed Antony a leave of absence. However, Sky Sports reports that he would be fully paid during his absence.
The club statement read: “Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony. Players who have not participated in international matches are due back in training on Monday. However, it has been agreed with Antony that he will delay his return until further notice in order to address the allegations.
“As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”
In Antony’s absence, Facundo Pellistri and Jadon Sancho would get more minutes on the pitch. If they fail to deliver and Antony’s case is not sorted out soon, they could be in a precarious situation by January.
