Lookman’s brilliance helps Atalanta past tough Cagliari

Lookman was on target for La Dea in their last Serie A game, and he continued with his brilliant form

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman scored the opening goal for Atalanta to help them to a hard-fought 2-0 win over Cagliari, Soccernet reports.

Lookman was on target for Atalanta in their last Serie A fixture which they lost 3-2 to Fiorentina, and coach Gianpero Gasperini gave him a starting shirt when they played hosts to Cagliari.

Atalanta dominated the early exchanges, and they nearly got the lead after 24 minutes. But Charles De Ketalaere’s strike was ruled out for offside.

However, Lookman turned up nine minutes later, with Ademola Lookman finishing with aplomb in the box after De Ketalaere played him through on goal.

La Dea were still on top for most of the first half, but they took their feet off the pedal in the second half.

Cagliari piled a lot of pressure on Atalanta’s defence in a bid to find their way back. However, they were profligate in front of goal.

Lookman could have scored two goals, but he was denied by the woodwork. The Nigeria forward was taken off in the 67th minute for Mario Pasalic, who later scored the winning goal for Atalanta in the 76th minute.

It ended 2-0 at the Gewiss Stadium, and the victory takes Atalanta to 6th place in the Serie A.
