PSG were favourites to win the tie, but Moffi had other ideas
Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi scored a brace to help Nice secure a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Ligue 1 champions PSG, Soccernet reports.
After the two-week international break, Nice returned to Ligue 1 action with a game against champions PSG.
Moffi, who was not called up to the national team, had enough rest and was fresh enough to lead the Nice attack.
PSG started on the front foot, but they failed to break down a compact Nice backline. Les Aiglons employed a high press to tackle the Parisiens build-up play, and it yielded fruits in the 21st minute as they capitalised on a mistake from PSG.
Nice got the ball in PSG’s area while they were trying to play out from the back, and Moffi got the ball in the box. The PSG defenders failed to clear their line quickly enough, and the Super Eagles star capitalised on that to send a shot which was deflected into the net and make it 1-0.
However, PSG star forward Kylian Mbappe pulled one back for the league champions in the 29th minute. They saw out the score into the break, but there was more to come in the second half.
Gaetan Laborde gave Nice their second lead of the game in the 53rd minute, and Moffi had a big hand in the goal again as he supplied the assist.
Then, in the 68th minute, Moffi took the law into his hands, scoring again to make it 3-1. This time, Laborde set him free with a great pass. Moffi ran till he got to the edge of the PSG box. He had players in front of him, but he teased and teased the PSG defenders and took a precise shot that just strolled past a stretching Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The champions pulled one back in the 87th minute through Mbappe, but it did not matter much as Nice ran out 3-2 winners.
Moffi now has three goals from his five appearances for Nice this season.
