Umar made his Champions League for Real Sociedad on Wednesday, but it did not pan out as he would have liked
Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar has admitted that he was disappointed with Real Sociedad’s 1-1 draw with Inter Milan in their opening game of the UEFA Champions League, Soccernet reports.
Real Sociedad began their UEFA Champions League campaign on Wednesday against Inter Milan. Nigeria attacker Umar had to start from the bench in the fixture. The Txuriurdin took the lead in the 4th minute thanks to a strike from Brais Mendez.
Real Sociedad dominated most of the fixture, but they failed to add to their goal tally. Umar got subbed into the game in the 72nd minute, but his presence did not change much.
Unfortunately for the Laliga side, Inter Milan scored just three minutes before the end of normal time.
Umar cut a dejected figure after the game, and he revealed that he was disappointed with the result.
“We were winning 1-0 when I came in, but the last-minute goal which made it 1-1 pained me,” Umar told Oma Sports.
“Everything depends on the result, we just have to look forward to the next game. We did not lose today; we have one point, which is also good, but I feel so sorry because we could have gotten the three points.”
Since Umar returned from his long injury layoff, he has not scored. He has had to make do with substitute appearances at Real Sociedad.
The club play Getafe on Sunday, and Umar would hope to score again and get the monkeys off his back.
