The rivalry between the two clubs has been on for decades, but Celtic have had the upper hand in recent years
Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has said that he is willing to do everything possible to ensure that his Rangers side beat Celtic when both teams meet in the Old Firm derby on Sunday, Soccernet reports.
Rangers welcome Celtic to the Ibrox Stadium on Sunday for the first instalment of the Old Firm derby. Both clubs have a rivalry that stretches back to the early 1900’s. Based in Glasgow, they are the most successful clubs in Scotland, as they have the lion’s share of all the available titles.
However, Celtic has been the more successful club in recent years, winning the last two Scottish Premiership titles. Also, they have lost just once in their last ten meetings.
Going into the game this weekend, Celtic are the slight favourites, as they have the better squad on paper and are in better form than Rangers. Nonetheless, Super Eagles striker Dessers is hungry for victory. He has said that he would give his all to ensure the Gers get the much-needed win.
“These are the games as a sportsman that you want to play in and you want to be a part of, Dessers said per Daily Record.
“It is an honour that I can play at Rangers and that I can play in this game. I am ready to die on the pitch. We need to do everything to win this game.
“We will have to lift ourselves. Of course, we are sportsmen, so this is a really tough loss because you work towards a goal, and one of our goals was reaching the Champions League, especially after last week when we showed that we have the level and we can do it. So this is tough.
“But we are professionals, and we know what’s at stake on Sunday. I am sure we will be ready. We will take the positives from Thursday’s game.
“Maybe that won’t be easy, but we will take the positives and try to improve the negative bits, and we will be ready on Sunday. I am 100 percent sure.”
Dessers is yet to score in the Scottish Premiership this season. But he would be looking to open his account on Sunday.
