The Super Eagles striker has been in remarkable form since he made the switch from Belgium to France, and his coach has been impressed
Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has praised Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface for his rich form since he joined the club this summer, Soccernet reports.
Boniface left Belgian Jupiler League club Royale Union SG this summer in a deal worth €20.5million. The 22-year-old forward impressed in Belgium, but he has surpassed all expectations in his first three Bundesliga games.
Switching from Belgium to the Bundesliga would be tough for a lot of players, but Boniface has taken to Bayer Leverkusen like fish to water.
The Nigerian striker has registered four goals and two assists in his opening three Bundesliga games for Die Werkself, and he currently sits second on the goalscorers’ charts.
Bayer Leverkusen coach Alonso has been impressed by Boniface’s brilliance so far, and he has praised the Nigerian striker.
“It is my wish that every opponent has problems with Boniface, Alonso told Bild Sport.
“He does everything well. Not only with his game, he helps the team. He has a good connection with Grimaldo, with Florian Wirtz, and with Jonas Hofmann.
“Boniface wants to enjoy the game. But not just for himself. He’s not just a classic striker, not just a regular poacher. He’s complete.
“We are happy with him, he has scored four goals so far, but we expect more.”
Boniface’s performances have earned him a call-up to the national team. If he continues the way he has started the campaign, he could compete with some of the big names like Harry Kane, Leroy Sane, and Serge Gnabry for the Golden Boot.
