Montpellier’s Akor Adams lost to four-time Ligue 1 champions after a commanding performance at home showed Montepellier there is work to do.
Nigerian and Montpellier striker, Akor Adams, lost to Lille after a commanding performance by four-time Ligue 1 champions, Lille, Soccernet.ng reports.
Montpellier barely had any clear-cut chances over the ninety minutes of football played at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, and an early goal by Turkish midfielder, Yusuf Yazici made all the difference in the game.
Lille dominated the game from start to finish, with Yazici’s direct free kick in the second minute proving pivotal.
Montpellier’s attack, spear-headed by Akor Adams, came up with just four shots on goal, as they struggled against the youthful Lille defensive trio; French starlet – seventeen-year-old Leny Loro, Portuguese youngster – Tiago Santos, and twenty-four-year-old Brazilian centre-back, Alexsandro Ribeiro.
Paul Foncesca’s Lille have been a notable side in the development of top talents in Europe, with players like Eden Hazard, Victor Osimhen, and Nicolai Pepe all making themselves household names with the French club.
Akor didn’t have a good game and had to be subbed off at the hour mark, completing just three out of five attempted passes in sixty minutes of play.

Akor didn’t win any of the four ground duels in which he contested, had no shots on target, and was dispossessed as many times as the passes he completed. A bad day at the office for the Nigerian.
Akor’s Montpellier have four points in four games and will be hoping to turn their dent in form into wins after the International break.
