Jordan Torunarigha has made 10 appearances for Gent in all competitions this new season, registering 1 goal and 1 assist in the Jupiler Pro League
Newly invited Super Eagles defender, Jordan Torunarigha has revealed his admiration for the widely regarded king of Afrobeat, the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Soccernet.ng reports.
Having represented Germany at various youth levels, Torunarigha recently switched his nationality to represent the Nigeria national team, following in the footsteps of his father Ojokojo Torunarigha, who has one-time played International football for the country.
The 26-year-old has now been handed his first call-up by Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro for Nigeria’s final Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo on Sunday.
After the country’s place in the biennial competition in Ivory Coast next year is assured following a 3-2 victory over Sierra Leone in their last match, Peseiro will aim to give new invitees like Torunarigha, Orban, and Boniface their debut appearance at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Sunday.
However, after settling down easily with his new teammates, Torunarigha has revealed his admiration for one of Nigeria’s finest musicians, the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
The 26-year-old further revealed his father’s exceptional love for Fela’s songs was behind his deep affection for the late musician, making him go to the length of placing a tattoo of Fela on his arm.
You can see this tattoo, it’s Fela Kuti. My dad only listened to Fela when he took his shower, Torunarigha said in a chat with Brila FM
I listen to his music. He’s a legend for all Nigerians.
Torunarigha hopes to be given the chance to show fans his ability for the first time when the 3-African champions host the 186th FIFA-ranked Central African country on Sunday.
