Nigeria have been drawn in pot 2 for the group placement in the AFCON 2024 tournament, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles are in pot 2 alongside Mali, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Ghana, and D.R. Congo. Each team will be drawn into different groups, each consisting of four teams.

Jose Peseiro’s men were top of their qualifying group with fifteen points from six games, with the most notable game being the resounding 10-0 win over São Tomé and Príncipe in 2022.

A total of twenty-four African national teams have been seeded into four pots, and four national teams will be drawn into six groups.

This seeded pot was announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on their social media feed, X (formerly called Twitter) on Thursday.

However, the 2013 AFCON champions could face defending champions Senegal, hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Morocco, Algeria and Egypt in the group stage.

Pot 3 contains the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, Cape Verde, Guinea, 2012 AFCON Champions – Zambia, two-time AFCON hosts – Equatorial Guinea, and Mauritania.

2010 AFCON hosts, Angola were seeded in Pot 4, alongside Guinea Bissau, Namibia, Mozambique, Gambia, and Namibia will also make their third-ever appearance at the tournament.

The Super Eagles exited the 2022 AFCON tournament in the round-of-16 stage and will hope to go a step further, considering the addition of quality in the squad, with notable improvements like Victor Boniface and Gift Orban in red hot form.

The draw ceremony will be held in the host nation, Cote d’Ivoire, on Thursday, October 12, and the tournament will run through from January 13 to February 11, 2023.
