Everton manager Sean Dyche has revealed that Alex Iwobi suffered a hamstring injury during the club’s 4-0 defeat away at Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports,
The 27-year-old Nigeria International was named in the starting lineup in successive games by head coach Sean Dyche after he featured in the entirety of the club’s 1-0 defeat against Fulham in the opening round of the Premier League campaign last weekend.
In the 18th minute, Aston Villa took the lead through captain John McGinn, before Douglas Luiz converted from the spot to double their lead midway through the first half.
Leon Bailey scored his first in the game six minutes into the second half before 19-year-old Jhon Duran wrapped it up in the 75th minute to make it a comfortable 4-0 victory for the Villans in the afternoon.
However, Iwobi struggled for most of his stay in the match before he was replaced by Neal Maupay in the 51st minute. The former Arsenal man went to the ground grasping his leg before he was substituted.
Sean Dyche has now revealed after the match that the Nigerian has suffered a hamstring injury and will be checked in the coming days. He was quoted on Everton’s official website
The Toffees will be hoping that the injury is not a serious one, knowing that the Super Eagles midfielder has been one of their key players in the last two campaigns.
His situation will also be monitored by the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF)as the country will be playing an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against Sao Tome and Principle next month.
