Aribo has not found a lot of joy at Southampton since he joined from Rangers last summer
Italian Serie A side Hellas Verona are exploring the option of signing Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo from Southampton, Soccernet reports.
The 27-year-old midfielder joined Southampton from Rangers in 2022 after two successful seasons in Scotland. Aribo was expected to adjust quickly because of the brilliance he showed while with the Gers.
However, he struggled to find his feet in England. The Super Eagles midfielder made just 21 Premier League appearances for the Saints last season as they dropped to the English Championship.
This season, Aribo’s fortunes have not improved, as he has remained a peripheral figure at the St. Marys.
Aribo has made two appearances off the bench for Southampton in their first three games in the Championship.
The Nigerian star has been linked with a move away from Southampton, and Besiktas has been touted as a potential destination. But nothing concrete has come out of those talks.
According to Football Insider, the 26-year-old has now emerged as a target for side Hellas Verona. The Serie A side want to sign Aribo on a season-long loan.
Given Aribo’s peripheral figure at the club, Southampton may be open to selling him this summer. However, they may not listen to any bid less than €5million.
