‘I am very impressed’- Super Eagles legend applauds Taiwo Awoniyi’s stellar display at Nottingham Forest

Despite being reported to have picked up a knock, Taiwo Awoniyi has scored back-to-back goals in his last two English Premier League games

Super Eagles legend, Sunday Oliseh, has showered praise on Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi after the latter netted his second goal of the 2023-24 English Premier League season, Soccernet.ng reports.

Awoniyi’s goal came as Nottingham Forest secured their inaugural victory of the season, further solidifying his name in the Premier League history books with an impressive six-match scoring streak.

Responding to this accomplishment, former Ajax FC midfielder Oliseh took to social media to commend his compatriot’s performance, highlighting the impact Awoniyi is making in English football.

Despite facing injury setbacks in his initial season with the City Ground outfit, the 22-year-old forward has bounced back impressively, scoring eight goals across his last six Premier League appearances. He has already notched two goals in his most recent two showings of the current season.

This achievement elevates Awoniyi to the ranks of African football legends Mohamed Salah and Emmanuel Adebayor, both of whom boast seven-game scoring runs.

Awoniyi’s latest feat unfolded as he led Nottingham Forest’s attack against Sheffield United at the City Ground. In a mere four minutes of the match, Awoniyi showcased his precision by converting a pinpoint cross from Ivorian defender Serge Aurier, leaving goalkeeper Wesley Foderingham helpless and igniting jubilation among Forest supporters.

Oliseh’s admiration for Awoniyi’s offensive prowess is evident in his statement, where he expressed his deep impression of the Nigerian’s quality runs and the exceptional goal he netted.

“I am very impressed by the quality of offensive runs Taiwo Awoniyi makes for Nottingham Forest, not to talk of the quality goal he scored. Bravo Taiye!” Oliseh wrote.

As Nottingham Forest comfortably holds the eighth position in the league standings, the team is set on maintaining their success with a forthcoming match against Manchester United at Old Trafford on August 26th, and Awoniyi is expected to continue leaving his mark on the field.
