CAkpom’s future has been in the balance for recent months, but he has put that behind him now
Dutch Eredivisie giants Ajax have announced the signing of Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom from English Championship club Middlesbrough, Soccernet reports.
Akpom’s future has been in the balance in recent months after a successful campaign with Middlesbrough that saw his score 28 goals in 40 Championship appearances.
With one year left on his contract, the 27-year-old forward was linked with a transfer to Premier League clubs Everton and Sheffield United.
French Ligue 1 clubs Lens and Lille were also linked to the Arsenal Academy graduate, but the transfer did not work out.
Ajax’s interest in Akpom was revealed last week, as the Godenzonen were offering Middlesbrough’s €14million for the Nigerian. Their offer was enough to convince Boro, and the Nigerian forward had his medical on Tuesday.
Ajax have now announced that Akpom has joined them in a deal that will see him remain at the club until 2028.

Also, he will wear the iconic number 10 jersey, used by football legends like Johan Cruyff, Dennis Bergkamp, and Wesley Sneijder.
Following his transfer, Akpom will become the ninth Nigerian to play for Ajax after Nwankwo Kanu, Sunday Oliseh, Finidi George, Pius Ikedia, Tijani Babangida, and Calvin Bassey.
