Alex Iwobi featured in all of Everton’s 38 Premier League matches last season, helping the club avoid relegation on the final day of the campaign
Everton manager Sean Dyche has confirmed that Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi will be missing in action for a few weeks due to a hamstring injury, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 27-year-old Nigeria International was substituted early in the second half of the club’s 4-0 away defeat at Aston Villa in the Premier League fixture last Sunday.
The Everton manager revealed after the game that the former Arsenal player had suffered a hamstring injury. However, Dyche has confirmed in a press conference ahead of the club’s next match against Wolves at Goodison Park on Saturday, that the injury is worse than he first thought, and Iwobi will be out of action for a few weeks.
Alex hurt his hamstring, it will be a few weeks I think, the 52-year-old English manager said in a press conference, as quoted by evertonfc.com
With the timescale revealed by the Everton boss for Iwobi to be out with the injury, the 27-year-old might be unable to play a part in Nigeria’s final Africa Cup of Nations qualifying tie against São Tomé and Príncipe early next month.
He is guaranteed to miss Everton’s next three games, starting with their home fixture against Wolves this weekend, and ending his 52 consecutive appearances in the Premier League.
