Transfers: Promising Nigerian striker joins Russian club Arsenal Tula

The Nigerian star, who is known for his strength and eye for goal, will now be plying his trade in the Russian league

Russian club, Arsenal Tula, have announced the signing of a talented Nigerian striker, Jonathan Theophilus Okoronkwo, on a season-long loan from FC Krasnodar, Soccernet.ng reports

The 19-year-old has been with Krasnodar for the last 17 months, first playing for the club’s reserve team before progressing to the club’s first team at the start of last season.

Known for his strength on the ball and eye for the goal, Okoronkwo was impressive under Krasnodar’s colors last season and got the interest of Arsenal Tula.

Okoronkwo began his football journey in the ranks of Diamond Star Academy in Calabar, Nigeria. He left the country in 2019 to join Gelendzhik Vista.

He left Vista after two seasons and joined Bulgarian side Botev. The 19-year-old began playing for the Krasnodar reserve team from a loan deal from Botev, before progressing to join the Krasnodar first team.

Arsenal Tula announce the signing of the talented striker on their website, stating,

19-year-old striker Jonathan Okoronkwo began playing football in his home country at Diamond Star Calabar Academy, later playing for local club Hope of Glory. In 2019, he moved to Gelendzhik Vista, and in 2021 he signed a contract with the Bulgarian Botev. In February 2022, Okoronkwo began playing for Krasnodar on loan, and in the summer of the same year, he signed a full contract with the Bulls. Last season, the striker played for Krasnodar-2 in the first league.

Okoronkwo hopes to shine in the colors of Arsenal Tula in the coming season, hoping to get a chance to sign permanently for them.
