Reports: Chelsea agree on ₦30billion deal with Rennes for Nigeria-eligible midfielder

Chelsea have shown much interest in youngsters since Todd Boehly became the new owner, and they have identified a new prospect

Former English Premier League champions Chelsea have reached an agreement with Rennes for the transfer of Nigeria-eligible midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu, Soccernet reports.

The Blues have shown serious interest in signing youngsters since American Todd Boehly bought the club in May 2022. Chelsea have acquired players like Andrey Santos, Malo Gusto, Cesare Casadei, Diego Moreira, Angelo, and Nicolas Jackson.

The club have now turned their sights to 19-year-old defensive Midfielder Ugochukwu. According to Sky Sports, Chelsea have agreed on a €30million deal with Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes for the signing of the youngster.

Ugochukwu started his career at Stade Rennes, steadily rising through the ranks to the senior team. And since the exit of France international Eduardo Camavinga, he has gotten a more prominent role at the club.

His transfer will be completed after a medical. However, Ugochukwu may have to wait a while before he gets to wear the Chelsea jersey because they want to send him out to Strasbourg on a season-long loan.

The 19-year-old midfielder was born in France to Nigerian parents, and he plays for the France youth teams. Nonetheless, he can still play for the Super Eagles because he has not played for Les Bleus.
