Napoli are looking to tie the Super Eagles star down to another contract, but the Nigerian star wants to keep his options open
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has told Napoli that he wants a release clause inserted in his contract before he extends his contract at the club, Soccernet reports.
Osimhen has been the best striker in Napoli in recent years. He scored 26 Serie A goals last season to help the club to their first Scudetto in 33 years. This ensured that he became the first African to win the Capocannoniere.
He also struck five goals in the UEFA Champions League to help the club reach their first-ever quarterfinal.
His displays have attracted some of the best clubs in Europe, with PSG, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich interested in getting his services.
However, Napoli are not willing to let the 24-year-old striker leave the club. Osimhen’s contract expires in 2025, but they want to extend his stay.
But Tutto Napoli reports that Osimhen has told the club that he wants a release clause inserted before he signs a renewal.
If they do this, Osimhen could leave once a club triggers his release clause. Also, he could submit a transfer request if he wants to leave.
Napoli want €180million for the former Lille man, but his suitors may not offer that kind of money.
