Exciting Nigerian forward Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi has experienced a sudden twist in his anticipated transfer to Latvian top-flight club Riga FC, Soccernet.ng reports.
Earlier reports indicated that Ikwuemessi was on the verge of joining Riga FC from his current Slovenian club NK Celje.
However, the 21-year-old has now taken a surprising turn by putting all negotiations on hold and refraining from signing the contract, as a more enticing offer emerged unexpectedly.
According to reports from Slovenia, French side Le Havre made a last-minute bid for Ikwuemesi, successfully luring him away from Riga FC.
The talented Nigerian forward has reached an agreement with Le Havre, leaving Riga FC behind. This opportunity allows him to compete in Ligue 1, as Le Havre won the Ligue 2 title last season.
The allure of rubbing shoulders with renowned players like Kylian Mbappe from PSG and Terem Moffi from OGC Nice proved too enticing for Ikwuemesi to resist.
It is worth noting that Le Havre is managed by Slovenian strategist Luka Elsner, whose connections back in his home country may have influenced his pursuit of the promising Nigerian forward.
The deal with Le Havre is nearing completion, with personal terms also being finalised.
Last season, Ikwuemesi predominantly operated as a center forward for Celje, impressing with his remarkable contribution of nine goals and five assists. Not only did he showcase his scoring ability, but his overall gameplay stood out among his peers.
With this move to Le Havre, Ikwuemesi now has the opportunity to prove himself against top-tier clubs such as PSG, Lyon, and Marseille.
The young forward’s decision to seize this chance demonstrates his ambition to excel at the highest level of football.
