Naija Super 8: Coach Finidi George reacts to Enyimba’s defeat to Remo Stars

Former Ajax winger and current Enyimba F.C coach, Finidi George has urged his side to bounce back after their opening-day defeat to Remo Stars.

Enyimba F.C. coach, Finidi George has remained positive after their opening day loss to Remo-Stars, Soccernet.ng reports.

The coach, who won his first-ever title as a coach with NPFL side Enyimba F.C. winning the league, has encouraged his team to bounce back and for them to awaken their resilient spirits after losing their opening Naija Super8 Group A fixture to Remo-Stars at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos State.

In a game which saw his team draw level before half-time, they just couldn’t find a way to keep Remo-Stars’ new signing, Isaac James, quiet, as the forward nailed the Abia-based side to the cross twice, scoring one and setting up another.

Speaking to Soccernet.ng in his post-match presser, the ex-Nigerian International said, “I think everything is possible. We will not relent in our efforts as we still have two more games to play, and we will give our best to make sure that we qualify. I also think this team will get better as we progress. With this first game, we can see where we are and can also see where we need to measure up, and by the time we play the second match, it’s going to be different from what we saw here today.”

The coach also stated in clear terms that the opening day loss has in no way deterred his winning spirit. He added, “We always play to win, and nobody knows what can happen, we still have a long way to go. We saw how it happened in the Super Six, and at the end of the day we still won it, so I’m not worried. We have two more games, and I think we will win them and get to the Semi-Final, then we’ll see what happens.”

The coach has instilled a winning mentality into his side, and it would be no surprise to see the League winners turn their fortunes around in just under a week at the Naija Super8 tournament.

Enyimba F.C. will play their next game against Sporting Lagos F.C. on Sunday by 4:30 pm, before playing their final group game against Katsina United on Tuesday.
