In their relentless pursuit to build a formidable team for the upcoming season, Konyaspor have set their sights on Abdulrahman Taiwo to bolster their offensive line, Soccernet.ng reports.
The green-and-whites are determined to secure the services of the Nigerian forward as they look to add a younger and more dynamic striker to their ranks.
Following the departure of Mame Diouf, Konyaspor’s plans for their strike force remain uncertain regarding the futures of Ikpeazu and Cikalleshi.
To address this void, Aleksandar Stanojevic, the team’s coach, has explicitly expressed his desire for Taiwo and promptly forwarded his request to the management, according to Sporundibi.
Taiwo, currently contracted with SönderjyskE, spent the previous season showcasing his skills at Slovakia’s Spartak Trnava.
While at Trnava, the 24-year-old featured in 30 matches, impressively finding the back of the net on 20 occasions. Several clubs, including Spartak Trnava, are reportedly interested in signing him.
But they may face stiff competition from Turkish side, Konyaspor.
Interestingly, Taiwo had a previous stint in Turkey during his developmental years, having been enlisted by Bursaspor’s youth team.
After leaving Turkey, Taiwo moved on to FCZ Brno B in September of the same year, rapidly ascending to their senior squad.
In January 2019, Taiwo’s ambitions led him to DAC Dunajska Streda, followed by loan spells at Karvina and Michalovce.
Eventually, he earned a permanent deal at SönderjyskE in 2021 before spending the most recent season on loan at Spartak Trnava.
At the international level, Taiwo is yet to feature for the Super Eagles. But he is a former youth international.
Taiwo was a member of Nigeria’s U23 team ahead of the 2016 Summer Olympics. However, he missed the main event as he was not picked in head coach Samson Siasia’s final selection.
Nigeria went on to win the bronze medal at the Rio Olympics.
