‘Heat of the moment’- Barcelona’s Oshoala sends message to Nigerian fans after Super Falcons stunning win over Australia

Super Falcons star striker, Asisat Oshoala has urged Nigerians to keep supporting the team after a spirited performance on Thursday.

Super Falcons and Barcelona striker, Asisat Oshoala has pleaded with Nigerians not to talk down on the team and to continue to support the Super Falcons, Soccernet.ng reports.

Determined to make an impact, the forward came on to score in the Super Falcons’ win 3-2 win over Australia in an incredible comeback by the team.

The Super Falcons had gone a goal down in the additional minutes of the first half but managed to equalize a few moments later.

Asisat was heavily involved in the two goals that followed, pressuring the Australian defender to concede the corner kick that led to the second goal of the super falcons, before eventually scoring the third, and the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane went wild with celebrations as the co-host of the tournament were defeated.

Asisat, speaking to Victor Modo about her celebration revealed that it was not planned, and how it was motivated by her emotions.

“The celebration wasn’t planned, it was just in the heat of the moment and personally, the win is a way of motivating our team and giving the girls confidence ahead of our next game because, at the end of the day, it is one game at a time. We’ve not qualified yet, we still have to focus on making sure we get things right in the next game, and I’m happy for the team, the girls deserve this. It has been a lot of hard work and sacrifice that got us here.”

The 28-year-old also sent a message to Nigerian football fans to keep supporting the team no matter the circumstances.

“Please, keep supporting us, we need your support now more than ever before. Whatever happens, don’t talk down on the team. Keep encouraging us and we will try to make you proud.”

The four-time CAF Player of the Year in the women’s category has scored in three World Cup appearances, making her the first African to do so, and she will be looking to add to her total when they face Ireland in their next game.
