We know what is at stake – Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa

The Super Eagles need just a win to qualify for the AFCON, and Musa has assured that they will be at their best

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has stated that the team will work their socks off to ensure they beat Sierra Leone in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers clash, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigeria square off against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone at the SKD Stadium in Monrovia on Sunday. Nigeria need just victory to seal their qualification for the AFCON next year.

When both teams met in the reverse fixture in Abuja last June, Nigeria had to work very hard. They came back from a goal down to claim the 2-1 victory over Sierra Leone.

Despite the gulf in quality between both sides, Sierra Leone will fancy their chances, especially after Guinea-Bissau defeated Nigeria last time out.

Nonetheless, Musa has assured that he and his teammates will be at their best to seal the victory.

“We are very prepared because we know it’s not going to be easy,” Musa said at the pre-match conference per Modo Victor.

“Any team that wins will have the advantage. But if we win, we automatically qualify for the AFCON.

“They are very good. We have a lot of stars on our team, but if we don’t work very hard on the pitch, it would be difficult for us to get the three points. We understand the importance of the game, so we are going all out to win.”

The Super Eagles have only been able to defeat once in their last three meetings.
