Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Sierra Leone with a score of 3 goals to two to secure their AFCON tickets
Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, has sent a message to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Portuguese boss emphasized the need for the country and the NFF to provide the best conditions for the national team players following their qualification for the AFCON tournament.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria edged past Sierra Leone with a score of 3 goals to 2 to guarantee their tickets to the 2023 AFCON tournament.
Peseiro expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance and praised their resilience in securing a crucial victory against a strong opponent.
Meanwhile, reflecting on the recent match, Peseiro commended his players for their outstanding efforts, stating, “Our team is the best in this group, I think we did a fantastic job against a good team. I am happy with the players because it was not easy to win a game that was almost drawn in that kind of atmosphere. After 2-2, we fought again and scored a goal that put us where we should be in the group.”
The coach also shared his perspective on the unpredictable nature of football, referencing the previous match against Guinea-Bissau, where the Super Eagles experienced an unexpected defeat.
“In football, you never can tell, when Guinea-Bissau came to Abuja, we could have beaten them at least 5-0, but they beat us 1-0. That can only happen in football.”
However, the former Sporting CP boss expressed confidence in his squad, emphasizing the need for optimal support and conditions for the players. He stated, “I have a good squad, now we have qualified for the AFCON, now is the time for the country and the NFF to give the best conditions for our players.”
