With a statement on their official website, Red Star Belgrade have officially announced the acquisition of Nigerian striker Peter Olayinka, adding another potent weapon to their squad.
Olayinka’s arrival comes as a free transfer, marking the end of his successful five-year stint with Slavia Prague.
The deal between the two clubs was set in motion earlier this year, with Olayinka signing a pre-contract agreement with Red Star Belgrade in January 2023. The agreement ensured a seamless transition for the 27-year-old, whose contract with Slavia Prague expired in June.
Earlier today, June 26, the Nigerian winger was unveiled by Red Star Belgrade, where he signed a three-year contract with the option of an extension.
Presenting the club’s latest addition, Red Star’s sporting director, Mitar Mrkela, expressed his satisfaction with the acquisition, highlighting Olayinka’s exceptional talent and experience.
Mrkela emphasized that Olayinka’s impressive performances for Slavia Prague, which included 11 goals in the championship and four goals in the Conference League last season, made him an ideal addition to the team. He expressed confidence that Olayinka’s presence would provide a new dynamic and strength to Red Star Belgrade.
Expressing his excitement about joining the Serbian champions, Olayinka shared his positive impressions of the club and its facilities.
Having already visited the iconic Maracana Stadium, Olayinka conveyed his delight and gratitude towards the warm welcome he received from everyone at Red Star Belgrade.
The Nigerian forward expressed his eagerness to contribute to the team’s success and revealed that he had closely followed Red Star’s matches during the spring, acknowledging the team’s quality and potential.
Born on November 16, 1995, in Ibadan, Nigeria, Olayinka made his way to Europe as a seventeen-year-old. After stints at Dukla Prague and Zulte Waregem, he eventually found success at Slavia Prague.
During his time with the Czech club, Olayinka made a lasting impact, serving as captain and their top performer. His remarkable tally of 50 goals and 26 assists in 183 matches showcased his effectiveness in front of the goal.
Red Star Belgrade won the Serbian SuperLiga for a record ninth time at the end of the just-concluded campaign and will play in the UEFA Champions League next season.
