Nigerians abroad: Evans excellent in Ecuador, Aguda keeps scoring, Moffi extends record

Here is Soccernet.ng‘s recap of the excellent showing of several Nigerian footballers across Europe and beyond on Saturday, June 3, 2023.

Belgium witnessed an exhilarating clash as Gent, despite Gift Orban’s inability to find the net, clinched a sensational [3-1] victory over Standard Liège at home. The win ensured their place in European competition for the upcoming season.

Over in Ecuador, the spotlight fell on 24-year-old Evans Oghenerukwe, who emerged as the hero for Mushuc Runa in a Liga Pro showdown against Orense.

Evans showcased his prowess by contributing a goal and an assist, propelling his team to a convincing [3-1] triumph at the Estadio Cooperativa de Ahorro y Crédito Mushuc Runa. It is Evans Oghenerukwe’s maiden goal of the season.

In France, Moses Simon played a vital role for Nantes in their nail-biting [1-0] victory over Angers on the final day of Ligue 1. The win proved crucial for Nantes, allowing them to escape relegation and breathe a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile, Terem Moffi continued to make waves in Ligue 1 as he found the back of the net in OGC Nice’s impressive [3-1] win against Lyon.

Moffi’s goal elevated his tally to 18 for the season, setting a new record for the most goals scored by a Nigerian in a single Ligue 1 campaign.

In Iraq’s top league action, Benjamin Okor’s timely equalizer for Naft Maysan salvaged a valuable point in their [1-1] draw against Karbala.

Italy witnessed mixed fortunes for Nigerian talents.

Ola Aina made a second-half appearance for Torino, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a disappointing [0-1] defeat against Inter Milan.

On the other hand, David Okereke enjoyed a pleasant end to the Serie A season as his relegated side, Cremonese, clinched a convincing [2-0] triumph over William Troost-Ekong’s Salernitana.

In Kazakhstan, Effiong Nsungusi showcased his goal-scoring prowess once again. Despite Atyrau’s unfortunate [2-1] loss to Ordabasy, Nsungusi, coming off the bench, netted a consolation goal, taking his tally to four goals in the last five league games.

Lithuania witnessed a thrilling encounter as Aaron-Pamilerin Olugbogi scored a crucial equalizer for Dainava before Radchenko hammered home a late winner, securing a hard-fought [2-1] victory against Suduva.

In the Netherlands, Almere City’s Hamdi Akujobi impressed in the promotion playoffs semifinal second leg, forcing a [1-1] draw against VV Venlo. Almere City ultimately advanced to the final after triumphing in the subsequent penalty shootout.

In Russia, 21-year-old striker Olakunle Olusegun displayed his poise by scoring a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser, salvaging a [2-2] draw for Krasnodar against Akhmat Grozny.

Lastly, in the Swedish Ettan league, Godwin Aguda continued his scintillating form, finding the back of the net for the fourth consecutive game. However, Aguda’s Falkenberg suffered a disappointing [2-1] defeat against Olympics.
