Kelechi Iheanacho, despite falling out of favour under Brendan Rodgers, was named Leicester City’s player of the season

Leicester City have announced the call-up of two Nigerian stars, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Wilfred Ndidi, amid waiting for Jose Peseiro’s list, Soccernet.ng reports.

With less than two days till camp opens at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, the Portuguese manager has yet to disclose his squad for the match-day five Africa Cup of Nations qualifier encounter against Sierra Leone.

Meanwhile, the Foxes’ official website has announced their Player of the Season, as well as Ndidi, for the crucial match between the two sides.

Not to forget that the Leon Stars boss, John Keister, has released his provisional squad to face the 2013 AFCON champions, which includes 12 foreign-based players and 26 home-based players for the encounter.

The reasons for the delay in Peseiro’s roster are unclear, but claims suggest that it would reflect and include several Belgian-based players as a result of his travel to witness some Jupiler Pro League games after his side’s triumph over Guinea-Bissau.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles now lead Group A in the AFCON qualifiers with 9 points, two points ahead of the African Wild Dogs and the Leoneans, who are third with 5 points.

A victory for the Super Eagles in the tie slated for the 18th of June against Sierra Leone would strengthen their spot in the 2023 AFCON which would hold in Cote d’Ivoire.
