Osimhen is one of the hottest assets in the transfer market, and there has been a lot of talk about his future
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand is unsure whether Victor Osimhen will be able to perform at a top level if he eventually moves to the Premier League, Soccernet.ng reports.
Osimhen was one of the best strikers in Europe last season. The Super Eagles striker broke numerous records last season in the run-up to Napoli’s Serie A victory.
Osimhen scored 31 goals in 39 appearances for the Partenopeans. This ensured that he became the first African to win the Capocannoniere. He also broke George Weah and Samuel Eto’o’s long-standing goalscoring records in Italy.
His performances have earned him a lot of admirers across Europe, and he is one of the top targets this summer.
Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and PSG are some of the clubs that may move for Osimhen despite his high valuation.
Osimhen has excelled in two of Europe’s top five leagues. And with the clubs that are interested in him, there is a chance that he could be playing in the Premier League soon.
Manchester United legend Ferdinand respects Osimhen’s accomplishments. Nonetheless, he fears that the 24-year-old striker may not be able to replicate his brilliance in the English Premier League.
“Osimhen is 24 years old, he has scored goals in France and Italy. He has won the league in Italy and knows how to win leagues,” Ferdinand told FIVE per Sportskeeda.
“He’s been a No.9 at a dominant team. Is that transferable to the Premier League? No one knows that.
“That’s the chance United would have to take on him. That’s the only risk I see. He doesn’t know the league. Ability-wise and profile, he ticks every box, but there is an unknown factor. Can he adapt?”
Osimhen has played in the Bundesliga, Jupiler League, Ligue 1, and the Serie A. Aside from his first stint in the Bundesliga where he failed to deliver at Wolfsburg, Osimhen has made his mark at all the other clubs, especially Napoli.
