Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has found himself among the elite contenders for the prestigious Ghana Football Awards, Soccernet.ng reports.
Alongside the exciting duo of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez, Osimhen will be vying for the crown in the fiercely competitive Best African International category. Morocco’s brilliant goalkeeper Yassine Bounou completes the four-man nominee, following his exploits for Sevilla.
The news broke out on the Ghana Football Awards’ Twitter handle, sending waves of excitement through the footballing community.
Osimhen’s inclusion comes as no surprise, considering his remarkable achievements throughout the season.
The 2022/23 Serie A campaign witnessed Osimhen spearheading Napoli’s triumphant march to glory, clinching their first league title since the distant year of 1990.
With an awe-inspiring tally of 26 goals in Italy’s top flight, the Super Eagles’ prodigy etched his name into the annals of history as the first African player ever to win the Serie A topscorer award. That feat also earned him the well-deserved accolade of Serie A’s Best Striker for the season.
Algeria’s captain Riyad Mahrez is a favourite for the award after finding himself on the precipice of an extraordinary treble with Manchester City.
With an impressive record of 15 goals and 13 assists in a staggering 47 appearances across various competitions, Mahrez has proven to be a vital cog in City’s relentless pursuit of glory.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah also made the elite shortlist, having showcased his unwavering brilliance on the grand stage for Liverpool. The Egyptian maestro’s mesmerised the Anfield faithfuls with 30 goals and 16 assists in 51 games.

The report is biased. Whereas the goals listed for Sallah and Mahrez were across all competitions, only series a goals for Osimhen was mentioned. Osimhen scored 31 goals and made 5 assists across all competitions. He broke numerous records and won several awards in club ,series a and Italy.. He by far deserves every award as top player in Africa for the season.
