The Flying Eagles battled to a winning start at the U-20 FIFA World Cup, but when they play Italy on Wednesday, they would have a bigger fish to fry
Flying Eagles player Jude Sunday has assured that the Nigerian Under-20 side would do their nation proud ahead of their major test against Italy, Soccernet.ng reports.
Following Nigeria’s victory against the Dominican Republic in the first match of Group D of the 2023 U-20 FIFA World Cup, Italy beat Brazil, the tournament favourites, by a score of 3 goals to 2.
Insisting that the lads would do the nation proud when they face the young Azzurri, Sunday, who was a key player for Ladan Bosso’s team in their victory against the Dominican Republic, allayed any worries that could have existed.
Guillermo De Peno scored an own goal for the two-time runner-up in the U-20 competition, and Samson Lawal capitalised on an Israel Boatwright back-pass to beat Valdez and outclass the newcomers.
Although his efforts for the seven-time AFCON winners were evident, and he admitted he was well prepared for the game, Sunday was not thrilled about not scoring in the contest.
“I had a wonderful game today, I was quite ready for the match. I want to thank God and my teammates for the success of this game, and for making me display my best.” he said.
The Nigerian player, who was denied by Walter Benitez’s boys, said he would give it his all against Italy, and he assures Nigerians that the Flying Eagles would deliver a strong performance.
“I will put in my best and I promise Nigerians that we are going to make them proud in the next game and we are going to win by God’s grace. I will try and put in my best again.” he added.
On Wednesday, the Nigerian Flying Eagles are scheduled to play Italy, and Jude Sunday is expected to be crucial to their success.
