Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has received high praise from former Scottish footballer Ally McCoist, who drew comparisons between Osimhen and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, Soccernet.ng reports
McCoist commended Osimhen’s qualities and remarked that the 24-year-old Nigerian forward reminds him of the iconic Drogba, who is regarded by many as Chelsea’s greatest ever player.
Osimhen has been a standout performer for Napoli this season, contributing significantly to the club’s Serie A triumph, their first since 1990.
With an impressive tally of 23 goals in just 29 Serie A appearances, Osimhen has attracted interest from several top European clubs, with Chelsea showing particular keenness to acquire his services.
As Chelsea have struggled in front of goal this season, currently languishing in 11th place in the Premier League, they view Osimhen as a potential solution to bolster their attacking prowess.
The upcoming arrival of new manager Mauricio Pochettino has further fueled the speculation surrounding Osimhen’s potential move to Stamford Bridge for the next campaign.
Ally McCoist, a former professional footballer who is revered for his prolific goal-scoring record, expressed his admiration for Osimhen during an interview with TalkSport.
McCoist stated, “He’s (Osimhen is) the only striker I’ve seen in the last 10 years that reminds a little of Didier Drogba. He’s not Drogba yet, but there is definitely a player in there.”
Having amassed 61 international caps and a place in the Scotland Football Hall of Fame, McCoist’s recognition of Osimhen’s talent adds to the growing reputation of the Nigerian striker, as he continues to attract attention and interest from top clubs across Europe.
