Why Alex Iwobi is delaying the signing of a new contract with Everton

Alex Iwobi presently leads the team in assists with a total of 8 assists

Super Eagles and Everton attacker, Alex Iwobi, is delaying signing a new deal at Goodison Park Stadium.

According to reports, the Nigerian striker is waiting to sign a new deal until the club’s future is figured out.

Despite previous reports from Soccernet.ng suggesting that the Nigerian star and his club were close to agreeing on a new contract, the 26-year-old is holding off on signing until Everton’s status in the English Premier League is determined.

The Merseysiders share a point with Nottingham Forest, who are in 18th place in the English Premier League rankings, at the top of the drop-off zone.

Frank Lampard, the current Chelsea interim manager, led the Toffees to a dismal run of play in the 2022–23 season before handing the reins to Sean Dyche.

Following this, Everton will have to fight and win against the likes of Newcastle United and Manchester City in their remaining games as they fight for survival in the Premier League.

Iwobi has spoken extensively with the club about extending his current contract, but he wants to wait until he knows if the team will play in the Premier League next season.

His current contract ends in 2024, and as a result of his outstanding performance for the squad in their fight against relegation, he has attracted attention from Premier League teams and other clubs around Europe.
