Osimhen had to sit out the clash against AC Milan because of an injury, but Sacchi believes he would not have made a difference if he was available
Former Italy coach Arrigo Sacchi has stated that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen would not have a difference if he had played for Napoli in their 4-0 loss to AC Milan on Sunday.
Soccernet.ng reports that the Nigerian hitman Osimhen has been in sensational form for Napoli this season, scoring 25 goals in 28 appearances for the Partenopeans.
Unfortunately, he was unavailable for selection after he picked up a knock while on international duty with Nigeria.
In his absence, his club fell like a pack of cards, succumbing to a 4-0 bashing against a rampant AC Milan side.
There have been talks that perhaps, if Osimhen was available, Napoli could have gotten something out of the game.
However former Italy coach Arrigo Sacchi believes that the 24-year-old Nigerian hitman would not have influenced the game, as Napoli looked very ordinary on the night.
“I know everyone will say Napoli lost because Osimhen was missing,” Sacchi said per Napoli Magazine.
“So, let’s clear up the misunderstanding immediately. Napoli were not very gritty, they were very slow and very predictable, and even Osimhen would have struggled. And the presence of one player could not have solved the situation.
“There are three fundamental components that have allowed Spalletti’s boys to reach the top of the standings in Serie A – strong motivation, team spirit, and game organization.
Napoli meet AC Milan again in the Champions League semifinal next week. And Osimhen’s presence is still in the balance. Coach Spalletti would hope that the medical staff does their best to ensure that the former Lille man is fit for the fixture.
