Renowned agent, Andrea D’Amico, has expressed his opinion that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) will go all out to secure the services of Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, in the event of Lionel Messi leaving for the Major League Soccer (MLS).
D’Amico made this assertion during his appearance on Radio24’s Tutti Convocati program (via Tutto Napoli) where he discussed various market issues.
According to D’Amico, Osimhen is currently the best striker in the world, even ahead of Erling Haaland, and this has made him a hot target for several top European clubs, particularly those in the English Premier League. He believes that after the end of the season, there will be a flurry of offers for the Napoli forward, but he sees PSG as a potential contender for his signature.
D’Amico’s reasoning is based on the fact that PSG could suffer a significant blow in their attacking lineup if Messi decides to leave the French capital for the MLS. While admitting that this was just his personal opinion, D’Amico felt that the Argentine superstar was likely to be tempted by the prospect of playing in Miami.
What was said?
“I think there’s only the embarrassment of choice, above all from England,” D’Amico said.
“Osi is the strongest striker in the world at the moment, even more than Haaland. These market considerations will be made after the end of the championship. Even PSG should not be underestimated in terms of Osimhen, also because they could have a heavy loss in attack. In my opinion, Messi is going hot, in Miami. This is just a feeling.”
PSG has been linked with Osimhen in the past, and the club’s sporting director, Leonardo, is believed to be a big admirer of the Nigerian. With the prospect of losing Messi, who has been a vital cog in PSG’s forward line since joining the club last summer, D’Amico believes that the Parisian giants will make a serious bid for Osimhen’s services.
Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille in the summer of 2020 for a club-record fee of €70m, and he is enjoying a spectacular third season, scoring 25 goals in 24 appearances in all competitions.
The 24-year-old’s performances have not gone unnoticed, and he has been linked with a host of top European clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester United, and Arsenal.
If PSG were to make a move for Osimhen, they could face stiff competition from the English Premier League clubs who are also monitoring the Nigerian’s progress. However, with the financial muscle that PSG possesses, they could prove to be a more attractive proposition for the young striker.
