Spor Toro Super Lig leaders Galatasaray are reportedly interested in Anglo-Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom who has been on fire for Middlesbrough this season.
With the contract of Bafetimbi Gomis set to expire and Mauro Icardi’s future uncertain, the Turkish giants have set their sights on strengthening its offensive line for next season.
Soccernet.ng understands that 27-year-old Akpom has been identified as a top target for Galatasaray.
According to reports in the Turkish media, Galatasaray’s scouting team has been closely monitoring Akpom’s performance throughout the 2022/23 campaign.
Interestingly, there has been a lot to cheer about Akpom, who has been not only one of the key players for Middlesbrough but also the most prolific forward in the Championship.
The former Arsenal star has scored 26 goals and provided two assists in 33 games to leave Boro on the verge of Premier League promotion.
Incredibly, Akpom’s contract with Middlesbrough is set to expire at the end of the season, which could leave him as one of the most valuable free agents in the business.
The ex-PAOK ace will reportedly jump at the chance to continue his career with a club that can guarantee continental football, and Galatasaray could potentially offer him that opportunity.
Born in London, Chuba Akpom started playing football in Arsenal’s youth system. He has played on loan for several clubs, including Brentford, Coventry City, Hull City, Brighton, and St. Truiden.
In the summer of 2018, he transferred to Greek club PAOK for a transfer fee of 2.2 million euros. After two years there, he moved to Middlesbrough for 3 million euros.
Akpom was loaned back to PAOK for the 2021 season before returning to Middlesbrough for the current campaign.
The Super Eagles hopeful is currently enjoying the most productive period of his career.
Akpom Contract does not end at end of the season it ends the end june 2024, Middlesbrough activated the 1 year optional extension which takes contract to June 2024
hes going nowhere
He’s under contract at middlesbrough for another season and would have no interest in playing for Galatasaray, if he were to leave middlesbrough he would want a move upwards not sideways.
