Versatile Burnley forward Nathan Tella was named in the team of the month after scoring five goals in four games.

Tella also won multiple man-of-the-match accolades in March, helping Burnley maintain their position as league leaders.

Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom was the player of the month with a WhoScored.com rating of 8.33. The Boro striker netted five times in March, maintaining his excellent goalscoring form for the promotion-chasing team.

Tella and Akpom were joined in the team of the month by nine other players, including Coventry City’s Luke McNally, Josh Eccles, Gustavo Hamer, and Viktor Gyokeres, who all impressed in their unbeaten run throughout March. Watford’s Daniel Bachmann, Wesley Hoedt, and Joao Pedro also made the list, along with Luton Town’s Cody Drameh and Alfie Doughty.

Whoscored.com uses a comprehensive rating system to evaluate players’ performances in each game based on statistical analysis. The team of the month is chosen based on players’ average rating across all matches played during that month.

With Nathan Tella and Chuba Akpom making the team of the month, it is a positive sign for the Nigerian national team, as both players are eligible to play for the Super Eagles.

Tella, born in England, is of Nigerian descent, while Akpom has previously expressed his desire to represent Nigeria internationally.

The inclusion of both players in the team of the month highlights their impressive performances and potential to contribute to the Super Eagles in the future.

We are yet to know the cure to our sickness, foreign born players here and there won’t develop our team. Firstly, what’s the stage of our league and support for those playing in NPL? African football is different and if Messi naturalised to be a Nigerian, selfishness will make him useless. Football is collective sport we have better players in Nigeria and it’s time our sport directors amend their mistakes on how important home grown players are treated and could be productive. Updated facilities and financial support is all those NPL players needs instead of relying on “FBP” like Tammy Abrahams that aren’t ready to sweat for Nigeria if they weren’t rejected from their country of birth.
